From the Sedona record

Christmas in Sedona

For Christmas week and the week around New Year’s, book lodging, dinner and tours early, dress in layers and check Flagstaff snow and ice before any trip north. The Sedona Shuttle’s holiday calendar lists daily service December 17–24, 2026, no service on Christmas Day, and service December 26–31 and January 1–3, 2027 (sedonashuttle.com, read October 16, 2026). While the shuttle runs, the Cathedral Rock and Soldier Pass trailhead lots are closed, so ride it to those trails; for passes at other trailheads, see our Red Rock Pass guide. On Christmas Day the Uptown Visitor Center, Red Rock State Park and Tlaquepaque are closed (Visit Sedona, Arizona State Parks and Tlaquepaque, read October 16, 2026). Tlaquepaque’s events page lists a Tree Lighting on December 4, 2026; check each page again the week you travel.

Walk early

Daybreak is the practical start, not a ranked tip, and a jacket in the morning does not rule out sun later. This index does not guess which tread has ice, mud or a holiday closure. Those facts, when an agency prints them, live on each trail record and on the managing agency's own page. Bell Rock Pathway's Forest Service page reads "Difficulty: Easy family-friendly trail." (last updated July 30, 2025; read October 16, 2026). Fay Canyon's reads "Difficulty: Easy." (last updated January 8, 2026; read October 16, 2026). Read that page before you drive.

The Sedona Shuttle over Christmas and New Year's

The Sedona Shuttle's Holiday and Expanded Service Calendar on sedonashuttle.com (page modified September 24, 2026; read October 16, 2026) lists "Week Before Christmas" as "12/17/26 – 12/24/26" with "Service Operates Daily"; "Christmas Day" as "12/25/26" with "No Service"; "Week After Christmas" as "12/26/26 – 12/31/26" with "Service Operates"; and "New Years Day" as "1/1/27 -1/3/27" with "Service Operates". The same page says: "During days and hours when the shuttles are running, the parking lots at the Cathedral Rock and Soldier Pass Trailheads will be closed." Check that calendar again the week you travel.

Scenic drives, or a seat

A paved scenic road and a pullout are a Christmas-week pattern that needs no trailhead lottery: State Route 179 through the Village, Airport Road to the mesa viewpoint, Oak Creek Canyon on SR 89A. This page gives no turnout grade; the shuttle's holiday dates are in the section above. A trolley or paved scenic jeep is a narrated version of the same idea; those records are on the comparison pages, dated, without a best pick. Airport Loop's compiled record is the Forest Service trail for that mesa, not a separate overlook listing. West Fork Trail No. 108 is off SR 89A in Oak Creek Canyon (check the West Fork guide's closure note first). Forest Order No. 03-04-00-26-007 closes it, and the Forest Service alert (last updated September 25, 2026; read October 16, 2026) says the order is "in effect from September 26, 2026, at 12:00 am through October 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., unless rescinded." When read, the alert showed that end date and no notice of a further extension or a rescission. Christmas week falls after it, so check the alert again before you plan a West Fork walk.

Thanksgiving week is a different week

Late November has its own shuttle dates, its own visitor-center and village closures, and the same rule against a made-up restaurant list. That page covers Thanksgiving week. This page stays with late December. A Grand Canyon day from Sedona is optional; Flagstaff snow and ice are a check before any trip north, not a forecast printed here.

What this page will not say

It will not name a restaurant that is open or closed on Christmas Day, publish a holiday-hours table, or rank a best dinner. Those would be made-up business facts. If an operator publishes Christmas hours, that fact belongs on that operator's own page, dated, after someone has read it from the operator's own website, never as a tip made up here. It gives no Festival of Lights date or hours that the village has not printed, and it will not forecast a freeze or a sunny week.

The Visitor Center, in Visit Sedona's own words

Visit Sedona's visitor-center page, for the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau Visitor Center at 331 Forest Road in Uptown, prints: "Visitor Center hours are: Seven Days a Week, 8.30 am – 5.00 pm Closed Christmas and Thanksgiving Day". That is their wording, read October 16, 2026; the page shows no last-updated date. This index does not compile visitor-center hours as a fact ledger. Re-check that page the week you travel; holiday hours can move.

Red Rock State Park, in Arizona State Parks' own words

Arizona State Parks' Red Rock State Park page prints a Holiday Hours block that includes "Christmas: Closed" and "Christmas Eve: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Last entry at 1:30 p.m." That is their wording, read October 16, 2026; the page shows no last-updated date. This page does not turn those strings into a park hours ledger. Re-check azstateparks.com/red-rock the week you travel.

Tlaquepaque lights

Tlaquepaque's events page (read October 16, 2026) lists a Tree Lighting at Tlaquepaque North on "December 4, 2026 | 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM". Its hours page prints: "Please note the village is closed in observance of the holidays on Christmas and Thanksgiving Day." This index has not confirmed a 2026 Festival of Lights or luminaria date, so this page gives none. This index holds a compiled landlord record for Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, the mall, not a gallery. Check the village's own events page before you plan an evening around the lights.

How the counts are made

Every figure in the opening answer is a count of compiled records in this index on the review date, excluding the fabricated sample listing — trails, jeep tours and trolley tours. When a record is added or removed, the count on this page changes with the next build. The listings behind those counts have not been independently confirmed with the businesses, and none of them is a claim that a tour or trailhead is open on Christmas Day. About this page

This page names activity types and travel patterns, not businesses. It prints no holiday hours of its own, no weather forecast, no Festival of Lights timetable and no restaurant list. Dinner, shuttle, visitor-center and park hours belong on the operator's, the Sedona Shuttle's, Visit Sedona's or Arizona State Parks' own page, checked the week you travel. Thanksgiving week has its own page. For Christmas week and the week around New Year's, book lodging, dinner and tours early and dress in layers. Read October 16, 2026, the Sedona Shuttle's holiday calendar lists daily service the week before Christmas and service the week after, with no service on Christmas Day. Visit Sedona's visitor-center page prints that the Uptown Visitor Center is closed Christmas Day, Arizona State Parks prints that Red Rock State Park is closed Christmas Day, and Tlaquepaque prints that the village is closed that day. Confirm each the week you travel, and check Flagstaff snow and ice before any trip north. Tlaquepaque's events page lists a Tree Lighting on December 4, 2026. This index does not publish a Christmas dinner open-or-closed restaurant list; check that kitchen's own page. The dated counts this page can honestly print are records this index already holds, not holiday hours: As of October 16, 2026 that is 24 trail records, 6 jeep tour records and 2 trolley tour records. The comparison pages below are the lists.
