- Brins Mesa Trailhead, off Dry Creek Road (FR 152); also reached from the Jim Thompson TrailheadAs published: from the 'Y' intersection of state Routes 89A and 179 in downtown Sedona, drive west on SR 89A for 3.2 miles to Dry Creek Road, take it 2 miles north, then turn right where Dry Creek Road (Forest Road 152) breaks off and drive 0.2 miles to the parking lot on the left. You can park there and hike another 2.24 miles up FR 152 to the Brins Mesa Trailhead, or drive to it with a high-clearance vehicle (that section is not passable for passenger vehicles). Fire alert shown at read time
On August 30, 2026 the page displayed a "Pocket Fire Temporary Area & Trail Closure" alert. The closure order read the same day (03-04-06-26-003, in effect July 31 - September 30, 2026) names Bear Sign #59, David Miller #164, Dry Creek #52, HS Canyon #50 and Secret Canyon #121 — not Brins Mesa — but check current status before hiking near the Red Rock - Secret Mountain Wilderness.
Wilderness rules and the upper road
The page states: "No mechanized vehicles (including mountain bikes) in Wilderness." Driving all the way to the Brins Mesa Trailhead requires a high-clearance vehicle for the last 2.24 miles of FR 152; otherwise park at the lower lot and walk the road.
